My son was super happy after each session and seemed to regain the joy in doing math that he had lost when he was so frustrated. I also appreciated how responsive and honest Frontier Tutoring has been regarding how much help my son needed.

When you enroll, you’ll be prompted to select a time for a coordination call. This is a 10-minute call where we will ask about your student's needs and goals. We'll also schedule your first session, often as early as the same day or next day.
If you need help immediately, submit your enrollment form, then call us at 907-268-4233. We’ll do your coordination call on the spot. Once we’re on the phone together, we can usually schedule your first session as early as the same day or the next day.
The first session is 1 hour and free of charge. We ask the parent to be present for the first 5 minutes and the final 5-10 minutes of the session.
- First 5 minutes: We’ll get to know each other and explore your student’s background and goals.
- Next 45-50 minutes: We'll jump right into tutoring and make some initial progress using your student's homework, tests, and school curriculum.
- Final 5-10 minutes: We’ll debrief how the session went, recommend a meeting frequency based on your student’s performance and goals, and set up an ongoing meeting schedule.
At a minimum, please have your student bring their course syllabus, textbook, recent assignments/tests, and login information for the course website.
Yes, we require you to place a credit card on file. This is to ensure we have payment information for your ongoing sessions if you decide to continue after the first session. We’ll take your credit card information during the coordination call. The first session is free of charge, and your card will be charged only if you schedule additional sessions.
The first session 1 hour in length. Whenever possible, we ask that the parent attend the first 5 minutes and the final 5-10 minutes of the first session. Your voice is an important part of establishing your student’s background and goals. It’s also helpful to have a parent present to set up an ongoing schedule at the end of the first session. If you’re unable to attend (or call in) during the session, we’ll arrange to call you after the session is complete.
Parents are not required to attend subsequent sessions.
Tutoring
The best way for us to answer this question is to meet with your student during the free first session. At the end of the session, your Tutoring Specialist will recommend a meeting frequency based on your student’s performance and goals.
Here are some general guidelines for how often students meet with us to achieve their goals:
- Getting ahead/struggling minimally: 1 hour per week
- Keeping up/struggling moderately: 2-3 hours per week
- Behind/struggling significantly: 4 hours per week
We use your student’s homework, classwork, and graded tests during sessions, supplementing with our own materials where necessary. Students enjoy coming to tutoring, because tutoring is a place not only to learn, but also to get work done.
Students can:
- Catch up: Address prior skill gaps so you can master new material
- Keep up: Get homework help, prepare for tests, clarify confusing concepts
- Get ahead: Work ahead if desired
- Build study and organizational skills: Learn how to prepare for tests, as well as stay on top of assignments and deadlines
- Get support on home school/virtual classes: Receive personalized instruction on new content, as well as manage course pacing and deadlines
Yes. After a rigorous selection and interview process, all of our Tutoring Specialists undergo a fingerprint-based FBI criminal history records check administered by the Alaska Department of Public Safety. Our Tutoring Specialists also undergo a third-party background screening, including education and employment verification.
Billing
The first session is 1 hour and free of charge. After the first session, you can pay monthly and save, or you can choose to pay as you go. Here is a description of how our pricing works.
We’ll help you choose the right pricing plan after the free first session.
Yes. We recommend that you purchase one of our monthly plans to take advantage of our lowest rates, then submit a receipt to your charter school for reimbursement. If you would prefer us to direct-bill your charter school, we will charge the hourly (highest) rate. Here’s a list of charter schools we work with. If you don’t see yours listed, contact us and we can explore establishing a relationship.
After the first session (which is free), we require 24-hour notice to avoid being charged a session. If you provide less than 24 hours’ notice, we may charge you (for pay-as-you-go customers) for the missed session, or deduct the hour(s) from your prepaid package (for monthly payment customers).
