Background & Selected Experience

In 2019, Sylvia returned to Alaska after completing her undergraduate degree with honors from Carnegie Mellon University. During her time at Carnegie Mellon, Sylvia completed multiple research labs investigating how children learn science and math, and she spent much of her time doing community service building houses with Habitat for Humanity. Since her return, she has participated in environmental science research with UGS and has been teaching Calculus at APU as an Adjunct Professor. 

Now that she's back home in Alaska, Sylvia is excited to enjoy her favorite outdoor activities, such as hiking and camping with family and friends. Additionally, she is continuing to volunteer in Alaska and has enjoyed building trails through the back country of Denali National Park.

Sylvia is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Environmental Science. She hopes to use her passion for math and science to educate others about climate change and develop solutions. She is enjoying teaching others to develop passions for the sciences and mathematics at Frontier Tutoring.
